Kodaikanal Hill Resort India - Information brought to you by TripsGuru.com

About a kilometre from the lake is Coaker's Walk just across the Bryant Park that runs along a steep, emerald green wooded slope, winding around Mt. Nebo. It is a gated paved narrow path, boulevard and walking trail of length 1 km for pedestrians which runs along the steep mountains that offers good views. A walk along this path will give you a wonderful view of many places such as Valley of the pambar river in South East, Dolphin's nose in south & Bird's eye view of Periyakulam township in the plains and even the city of Madurai from here.

It derives its name from Lt. Coaker of the Royal Engineers, who had prepared the map of Kodaikanal in 1872. He cut a path along the ridge of steep south eastern side to get magnificant views of the plains below.

There are entrances at either end, admission Rs 2, Camera Rs. 5, Time: 7 am to 7pm, the pavement is well maintained now with railings and granite benches for resting. It starts near Van Allen hospital and joins the main road above St. Peter's Church and provides a wide-angle spectacular view of the plains. You can start from either end, near Greenlands Youth Hostel or Villa Retreat, and the fast stroll takes just five minutes, but it is worthwhile to spend some time here watching around. There is a Telescope House here (ticket Rs. 3) near one entrance from where visitors can have a panoramic view of the surrounding valley and the plains.

This is a walk filled with wonders that runs for a kilometer along the edge of steep slopes and provides a spectacular view of the plains below. On a cloudless, clear day, it is possible to set sight upon other tourist locales. The view of the open space landscape and the verdant hillsincredible view is incredible. There is a rugged pristine beauty about these vistas, and the mist rising in veils from the valley below, makes this place a heavenly abode. And when the clouds are on, one can get to see one?s shadow on the clouds, a fascinating phenomenon called 'Brachem Spectre'! A very lucky person can see his shadow on the clouds with a rainbow halo, when sun is behind and cloud and mist is in his front. Greenlands Youth Hostel and Villa Retreat organise guided walks, and guides can also be arranged through the Tourist Office (Rs. 50 to 70 per hour).
