Dolphin's Nose - Kodaikanal
A flat protruding rock at the edge of the cliff, below which there is a great depth of about 6600 feet. Its name comes from the obvious resemblance to the Dolphin's nose. (There is a similar rock and place in Ooty to called by the same name). This is an awe-inspiring sight though we have wonderful sights throughout the way. It is about 8 Km away from bus stand. A breathtaking view of the scenery below is available.
To reach Dolphin's nose, one has to follow the old road after crossing Pambar Bridge near leaving stream. A rough curve rounds the hillside which leads to a point where a flat rock projects over an awful chasm of 6600 feet deep. This is Dolphins nose. On the way, beautiful views of plains and steepy rocky escarpments called rolling hills can be seen. The old village of Vellagavi can be reached through the rugged bridle path. This is one of the most important location in Kodai to explore the forest around. Make sure you don your most comfortable walking shoes. There are a number of small shops en route that sell snacks, tea and coffee. Catch breathtaking views of the landscape as you stand on the edge of the rock. The mountains around are covered with clouds most of the time, so its an enthralling experience indeed. As with the rest of Kodaikanal, it is not only the destination that is worth seeing, but also the journey towards it that seems like a ride through a picture book.
